muhahaha... Hi, I'm Iron Man, I'm Batman... awesome (some people who have too much time on their hands.)
The highlight of my morning, was finding two flowers on my peace lily! This is the first time it's ever flowered since I've had it. I was so excited that I wanted to call my cohort in plants, but it was 6:30. I figured it was too early.... :D post a comment
My to do list. I know I said I wouldn't post any more to do lists, but perhaps posting it will make me actually do it.. -BCAM -Noah's Ark -Study Regulation -Buy Stocks -Wash the Purple Ppl Eater -Laundry? -Find a CD with pictures on it... -Actually finish books I start. -Think of what to do with my life, other than work -Catch up with friends -Plan M day festivities -Do my year end review -__- -Do upward feedback -Figure out... stuff -Sleep a little more. -Be a better person -Plan on ways to get to events in May -Reply to emails/posts/etc -Wish a happy birthday to everyone I missed in the last 3 months. -Take care of my garden -Take care of my fish -Take care of myself. I really don't know where to start...
7 things about me you'd not likely guess I was tagged by Chanlee and Auntie Katy.. thanks.... (sarcastically...) (just kidding!) :D Here goes (in no particular order): 1) Food network rocked my socks... when I had cable. When I was in college, I actually had cable for the first time ever. There are so many possibilities to watch when you have cable, but I always ended up drifting to TCM (Turner Classic Movies), FSN 2 (which turned into FSN Prime Ticket) to watch Ducks game, and ineveitably, Food Network. At first I was really into watch Rachael Ray and watching $40 a day and 30 minute meals, until it hit me that $40 a day to eat was a lot and her 30 minute meals weren't much better. (Plus, they weren't that healthy) But, who couldn't dream they could travel the world, and eat! Then was into Unwrapped, Iron Chef, and Alton Brown's Good Eats. My friend gave me a Good Eat's baking book for Christmas one year and it's awesome because he give you the science behind the food. I came across a friend who had Good Eat's on his computer, and he copied them over for me. I have yet to watch it, but I'm eagerly anticipating it once I can find some time.... Now I can only figure when I can catch up on my other TV. Emma and Sense and Sensibility are waiting for me in the VCR (or DVD-R.. I still need to learn that too). 2) I used to could do weird flexible things like the human pretzel (Actually, I think I still can) and freak people out with my double jointedness. I'm surprised I can still arch my back into a bridge as well. I used to also like flipping my ear. Not anymore. I think my cartilage hardened. 3) I've worked at an exterminator company, in a library with historical printing presses and 500 year old books, and in a contemporary art museum. The first one came because I had to find an internship and my dad found it for me. The second one came because I took a freshman seminar on printing presses and ended up helping the librarian clean and play with the presses during the class instead. The contemporary art museum came about because I just really wanted to work at the Smithsonian and the opportunity popped out. Contemporary art is now fun! (Even though I still don't understand it)... Who wants to see BCAM? 4) I like disgusting vegetables, like brussel sprouts, beets, lima beans, okra, etc. Actually, I think I just like vegetables. Vegetables are good. My friend once made fun of me because my quote in a student newsletter was, "Remember to eat your vegetables!" (This newsletter is somewhere on the web in pdf format, so I don't think you'll find it :D). Har Har. 5) I was slightly OCD, but now I think I'm just lazy. For example, I used to get annoyed when my pencils weren't facing in the same direction in my pencil case. I don't care anymore. Now I get annoyed when people don't merge and wrap text in Excel, but break up sentences just to split them up on multiple lines. Perhaps work is getting to me.... 6) People think I'm a dangerous pedestrian. 7) I may try to be an aspiring gardener, but I keep killing my air plants. Thus ends my 7 nonsense items. It's now time for {Edit: Goodness gracious, my LJ friend link wasn't showing up correctly, Ms.
I want to go to this @ the Skirball. post a comment
how do you lose 0-4 in the first game of the playoffs when you're supposed to be the defending stanley cup champions.
I know I shouldn't be too mad or pessamistic (well, I sort of am) and I know I shouldn't complain too much, but when I did my time sheet yesterday, I realized I put in 147 hrs for the first half of the month. Ugh. That's pretty disgusting.
I was learning about total return swaps the other week from my senior, and how the funding party (ie:bank) invests their assets into different investments while hedging the risk of holding the investment to an outside entity (ie: company). The fun part was how we ended up using the analogy of a hockey player that’s being traded from one team to another. Clearly, both teams are finding the transaction to be beneficial. The team that trades away the player is also trading away the salary while the recipient team is getting a player who they think is worth the money they’re paying him. In a way, the total return swap involves the each party getting something that is beneficial. The company that is earning to total return on the investments made by the bank feels that the investment is worth it, even though they are paying a steady rate of return to the bank (let’s say 5%) of the investment back to the bank for earning off the bank’s assets. The company will typically enter into this type of agreement anticipating the investment will earn more than the rate they were paying to the bank (so basically anything above 5%, they’re earning), whereas the bank will benefit from a steady rate of return (usually a specific percentage) from the company no matter if the investment is losing or gaining value. Basically, both the company and the bank are earning a return, but the company does not have to put forth any capital to do so even though they’re taking on the risk that the investment will lose money and therefore they will have a loss, and the bank is earning a less riskier return on the assets they invest. This isn’t the best of explanations, and I don’t even know if I’m explaining it correctly, but what-the-hey, it’s fun to write it out. It was even better to compare it to hockey. I am amazed that I’ve pulled to 6th place on my fantasy hockey team. I was the bottomfeeder 12th place up until January or so. Not bad for only checking my team once a week. I think I’ll play Hagman more now that Brad Richards is now playing on the same line. Dallas is now awfully scary, but I guess it’s good for my fantasy team. My peace lilies are doing so much better than Tuna. Poor Tuna. Still shoddy eating. I need to stay positive! (especially with work!) post a comment
So I was thinking this week about perhaps blogging more and writing about reflections on things I'm coming across. First of all, I'm debating how to blog more. I've decided that I should a little more especially how its a good way to share. But whether in tidbits here and there or with one that's acutally thought out, and I'm not sure. It's probably better to have a well thought out one rather then either random thoughts (like this one) or nonsense stuff (like the links I'll post below). I'll probably try to be more serious, with better grammar and sentence structure. (Who knows if I'll actually do it though, given the lack of blogging that I do.) But! In the spirit of shared items in Google Reader, the exchange of ideas and the different thing we run across makes me feel like there's a greater sense of interaction, even though it may not be direct contact. Lately, all I think about or talk about is work. It's really quite disapointing, and that's probably been the hardest transition. No longer are conversations about the variety of life. Rather it's the constant push of work and more work that first takes up your day, and your whole week, and so on. I'm going to try to set some goals for limiting the insanity of life. Work is a part of life, but it's not everything in life. (Neither is hockey, but it it's a great distraction). Here are a few that I've thought of so far. If anyone feels like leaving comments, feel free to do so: Goals: -stop complaining about work -stop thinking of how long I've been working -stop agonizing over new commutes -work on projects that don't relate to accounting during the weekends (this is going to be hard with my supposed studying...) -keep in better contact with close friends, and friends I haven't talked to in a long time and see how they're doing, and also be encouraging -be more diligent while at work and try to ask questions/think critically rather than agonizing over something I'm confused about Let's hope this partial list will help even though I want to try to be a good worker at work. Thus ends the boring stuff. Here's a link about a crazy goalie: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ef4_12031 Here's an interview on NPR with Cookie Monster my friend sent me. His references to Oscar the Grouch are awesome, and he has good taste in vegetables: http://www.npr.org/blogs/incharacter/200 Perhaps I'll find some more fun things to share. I'm going to start using the 'share' link on my google reader. I hope everyone has a great week!
This was my post I was supposed to post on Saturday... Today I went to a tree planting/tree care community service event with the company. quite fun. :) We were looking for trees to see if they were dead or alive. For the alive ones we weeded, and for the dead ones, we had to clear out the metal fences around them. I was bummed at first because I kept finding dead ones (they had planted them about a year ago, but they didn’t do a good job maintaining and it was really dry for the longest time). Anyway, I ended finding 2 live ones! :) Hee hee. Quite fun. Since I got so dirty, I decided to do what I was thinking all week.. make a vegetable garden! I got some seeds and dug some dirt and laid out soil stuff and planted carrots, beets, snap peas, and lettuce. Yay. I realize I know nothing about planting gardens because my dad kept on having to fix it all.. haha. I also had an operation for my peace lily! I propgated it by dividing it in half. Hope they stay alive.. :P. Time to watch Miracle on TV when I should be studying or doing taxes or something.. no idea… I need to stop coughing too -_-. Too many sick people around me. post a comment
your Aunt calls at 8PM and is super surprised you're home "early". :/ post a comment
Poor Tuna has holes in his tail, white fuzz on his eye and his gills are slightly red. Got some medicine for him so I hope he gets better. Boo to fin rot and other ailments. Boo to studying too. 6 days to doom. post a comment
Today, we went to a hockey game with Ma Mandy! Ducks vs. Phoenix. It was awesome to see Bryz get a great ovation even though Phoenix picked him off waivers the other day. Even though they lost.. (Ducks! Why do you always manage to get to OT and lose in the shootout!?!?) the best thing about the game was when they were talking about Getzy’s new 5 year contract. They panned the camera over to him, and he’s blowing snot out of his nose without a tissue, and you see something flying out of it. Hockey players are so disgusting. Ha ha I’m still so full from Thanksgiving. It was fun cooking again, and it was super nice that Mel could come and spend dinner with us. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. A good reflective time and it also has the best food.
It's time for an update ... even though it's going to be short because I'm going to sleep soon.. sad.. so early :P
sorry for lack of updates.
Thus ends summer. post a comment
Alaska Pictures are up.
It’s already September! Summer is almost over and work is coming up soon. You can tell it’s almost fall, since we stopped by Anaheim Ice today to buy rookie tourney tickets and stopped to watch practice. :D Saw Perry, Getzy, Parros, McDonald, Marchant, Bryz, Kunitz, O’Donnell, etc. Yay! Hockey season is starting soon! (Boo!! Ducks are probably going to be sold out so it’s going to be hard to get tickets this year, unless they start to do really badly (which won’t happen)) Other than work starting soon, and supposedly studying, it has been busy. Here’s a short (or long) update on last month’s vacation. We got back from our 11 days in
I’ll post a photo journal-y thing sometime soon. Will let you know when it’s up. I have to study now. Look for upcoming posts on the upcoming hockey season!! We shall find out soon if Sneids and Selanne will retire.
Findings: Two BBQ’s in one weekend with a greasy day in between is not very good for the stomach. Ha ha. That’s what happens when on a Fri night, your Aunt and Uncle throw a BBQ before your cousin goes back to the east coast, on Sat your friend has a craving for greasy mexican food for her birthday, and on Sun your d-boat buddies decide to have a BBQ and all they ask you to bring is MEAT. Otherwise, I’m starting CPA review :O. That’s all. Random thoughts from this past week relating to plants: -How do i propogate my peace lily? -Where do Chamomile seeds come from? -Why does my air plant look like its dying? -The worms in the nectarines are huge-mongous this year. -We finally have room in the fridge for a watermelon. -It's harder to pull dandelions with their roots attached than without their roots attached Thats it. post a comment |
